Grimes [Artist Introduction]

Quebec native, Claire Boucher, better known by stage name ‘Grimes.’ Has quite possibly released the album of the year in January. It has taken me a few months to warm up to the album, which explains why it’s taken me this long to put it up. With her third full length release, ‘Visions,’ Grimes finally broke into the indie mold for real. With a dream pop, electro style and crooning ghostly high pitched vocals the songs really have a certain aspect of depth to them which I’ve begun to truly enjoy. Maybe my recent delving into bands like Purity Ring and Beach House has given a better appreciation for this synthpop genre. ‘Visions’ itself is definitely a gem filled with beautifully captivating songs you might expect to hear from a more feminine version of The xx. Take a listen to my two favorites from what many consider one of the best albums of the year thus far.
