Two summers ago, while at the 618 Festival in Philadelphia, I was introduced to the stylings of a young EDM producer who lit up the stage despite seeming a bit out of place. At a festival dominated by Philly-based rappers, and headlined by Switch of Major Lazer, I was caught off guard by this young white-kid with production and stage presence beyond his years. Now, Porter Robinson is one of the rising stars of the music production world, and will be performing alongside fellow prodigy, Zedd on their “Back to Back” tour this fall. The two stars have exhibited the rapid pace at which stars are born these days, and their meteoric rise was not by chance. These two artists are constantly working to master their art and I am always impressed by the innovation in their music. If you are like me at all, and find a lot of EDM to sound too similar, and lacking variation, then I suggest you tune your earbuds to the sounds of Zedd and Robinson. For those of you in Boston, this means taking some time out of your Tuesday night (Oct. 2nd) to check these guys out at the Royale. I’ve posted Porter Robinson’s “Language” below, for those who don’t believe what I have written.
